June 28, International Symposium of “China and the World in Transformation of International System: Towards Harmonious Society” sponsored by SIIS and the Chinese People"s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) was held in Beijing. SIIS President Yang Jiemian chaired the opening ceremony and delivered the welcome speech. Mr. Han Sung-Joo, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea, Amb. Ong Keng Yong, former Secretary General of ASEAN, Mr. Jusuf Wanandi, Vice Chairman of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies of Indonesia (CSISI) and Prof. Akihiko Tanaka, Executive Vice-President of University of Tokyo attended the symposium. Guests from Chinese side are Amb. Chen Jian, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amb. Zhou Wenzhong, former Ambassador to the United States and current Secretary General of Boao Forum for Asia, Mr. Wei Jianguo, former vice minister of Commerce, General Yang Yi, former Director of Institute for Strategic Studies of National Defense University, Prof. Cui Liru, President of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), Prof. Qu Xing, President of China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and Mr. Xu Shiquan, former vice chairman of China Association of Taiwan Studies (CATS) together with SIIS and CPIFA fellows.
