July 6, “Governance and Cooperation: 2011 Conference on China’s Polar Strategy and Interest” co-sponsored by SIIS and China Polar Research Institute is held in Shanghai. SIIS Vice President Yang Jian presided over the conference. SIIS President Yang Jiemian and Mr. Yang Huigen, Director of Polar Research Institute of China delivered opening remarks. Mr. Qu Tanzhou, Director of Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration attended the conference to express congratulations and offer guidelines for the conference. Experts and scholars from Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration, The Department of Treaty and Law of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Polar Research Institute of China, Shanghai Library, Ocean University of China, National Defence University PLA China, Fudan University, Tongji University and Shanghai International Studies University and among others had in-depth discussions and fully exchanged views on the issues of the recent development of governance and cooperation in polar regions.
