Changing East Asia Configuration and China-Japan Strategic Mutual Beneficial Relationship

November 23, 2009, SIIS and China International Institute for Strategic Society(CIISS) co-held an international seminar entitled “Changing East Asia Configuration and China-Japan Strategic Mutual Beneficial Relationship.” Former vice-chief staff of People"s Liberation Army and former President of CIISS, General Xiong Guangkai, Chinese Military Attaché to Japan Xu Jingming, former officials of Japanese Ministry of Defense Kato Koichi and Yamasaki Taku, and former Japanese Defense Minister Kyuma Fumio attended the seminar. Scholars from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Shanghai International Studies University were also invited to discuss on the new configuration of East Asian and the developments of Sino-Japanese strategic mutual beneficial relations. SIIS President Yang Jiemian, hosted the seminar. Both sides discussed about the trilateral Sino-Japanese-U.S. rlations, relocating Futenma base, the building of East Asia community, the feasibility and obstacles of Japan’s exercising of collective self-defense.
