June 3, International Conference on Global Challenges and Asia-Pacific Cooperation and the 2nd SIIS International Advisory Council Annual Meeting is held in the Chinese People"s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) in Beijing. Mr. Chee-hwa Tung, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Former Chief of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, PRC, and Chairman of SIIS Int’l Advisory Council delivers the opening remarks for the conference. The conference invites Dr. Bates Gill, Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Prof. Dr. Volker Perthes,Director of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and Executive Chairman of the Board of SWP,Prof. Kenneth Lieberthal, Director of the John L. Thornton China Center at Brookings Institution, Dr. Arvind Gupta, Director General of the India-based Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and Dr. Jusuf Wanandi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (Indonesia). The conference also has distinguished domestic speakers of SIIS Honorary Directors of Institutes including Amb. Chen Jian, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amb. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia, Admiral Yang Yi, Professor of National Defence University, Prof. Xu Shiquan, Former Executive Vice President of the National Society of Taiwan Studies as well as special guests Amb. Sun Zhenyu, Former Chinese Ambassador to WTO and Prof. Cui Liru, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR). SIIS President Yang Jiemian delivers concluding remarks as the summarization for achievement of the conference.
