May 22, the International Conference on the "UN Reform and Regional Organisations Development" is held in SIIS. SIIS Vice President Chen Dongxiao and Mr. Dan Chugg, Political Counsellor of British Embassy Beijing deliver the opening remarks on behalf of hosting institutions. Co-sponsored by British Embassy Beijing and SIIS, the conference invites officials, scholars and experts from the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office, British Consulate-General Shanghai, University of London, Ningbo Nottingham University, Fudan University and Shanghai International Studies University to have in-depth discussions on such issues as the interpretation of basic principles in the UN Charter, new challenges and threats faced by the UN, regional organisations and the UN. The conference also has a session via teleconferencing, which enables more British participants to have interaction with on-site discussants.
