December 13 through 16, 2014, Professor Yang Jiemian, Chairman of the SIIS Academic Committee, led SIIS delegation to Maldives. The delegation held exchanges with Maldivian officials and scholars on the issue of enhancing cooperation for the construction of 21^st Century Maritime Silk Road. During the visit in Maldives, the delegation called a visit to Minister of Defence and National Security Mohamed Nazim. The delegation held talks with Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor of Maldives National Defence Force and Brigadier General Ali Zuhair, Commander of Marine Corps and Malé Area. The discussion dealt with the themes of New Asian Security Concept, Maritime Silk Road and anti-terrorism campaign, rescue and relief cooperation. The delegation also visited PRC embassy, Non-Commissioned Officers Academy of Maldives National Defence Force on Girifushi Island and National Museum of Maldives aided by Chinese government. Professor Yang Jiemian delivers a speech on China’s Foreign Policy and 21^st Century Maritime Silk Road in the Maldives National University.
