SIIS Holds the China-Australia Global Issues Dialogue

The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the East Asia Bureau of Economic Research (EABER), Australia National University jointly organized the international conference on G20 as the third meeting of the China-Australia Global Issues Dialogue series in Shanghai on August 13-14, 2015. The objective of the conference is as follows: this dialogue is an opportunity for Australian and Chinese policymakers and thought leaders to exchange views with experts from G20 and other countries on core global and regional economic challenges. It provides insights into potential priorities for the G20 through 2015 to 2016 and beyond by looking at the nature of these challenges, the ability of international institutions to address them and the role of the G20 in facilitating their smooth resolution.
Some 30 participants and observers are from China, Australia, Turkey, Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, the United States and Canada. Amb. WANG Xiaolong, China’s G20 Special Envoy and Mr. David Gruen, Australia’s G20 Sherpa and Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, made keynote speeches. The Conference was held in a closed setting on an invitation only basis. The participants focused on the following four topics: 1) The Global and Regional Economic Outlook, 2) Structural Reform and Overcoming the Challenges of Implementation, 3) Addressing the Challenge of Weak Global Investment, and 4) Global Governance and the Trading System. Delivering the wrapping up remarks were Prof. CHEN Dongxiao, SIIS President, and Prof. Peter Drysdale, EABER Director.
