SIIS Holds the International Seminar“The New Development Bank: From Idea to Reality”

On July 21th, the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS launched business in Shanghai. After the opening ceremony of the NDB Inauguration, SIIS held the international seminar “The New Development Bank: From Idea to Reality”. Chinese Finance Minister Lou Jiwei, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong and NDB President K.V. Kamath from India attended the seminar and gave opening speeches. Group of scholars, practitioners and government officials gathered together to advise the future strategy of the NDB. President Chen Dongxiao made the concluding remarks.
China's Finance Minister Lou Jiwei said at the opening ceremony that "the NDB is complementary to the existing multilateral development organizations, and it will build closerelationships with them and with the private sector."
Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong said the city will do its best to facilitate growth of the new bank, which may in turn bolster the city’s development.
