SIIS Held International Conference on Global Energy Governance

On July 27th_ 28th,Shanghai Institutes for International Studies(SIIS), Lowy Institutes for International Policy, Korea Development Institute(KDI), Center for International Governance Innovation(CIGI) and Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey(TEPAV) jointly held an international conference “The Impact of Low Oil Price and the Role of G20 in Global Energy Governance”. Representatives from government departments, international think tanks, academic organizations attended the conference and shared their opinions. President Chen Dongxiao gave opening speech. Mr. Pascal Laffont, Chief Legal Counsel of IEA, Mr. David Sandalow, former U.S. Under Secretary of Energy, Mr. Masakuza Toyoda, Chairman & CEO of Institute of Energy Economics of Japan , and Mr. LI Junfeng, Director General of National Center of Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation gave keynotes.
The conference aims to improve understanding of the key issues regarding the impact of low oil prices and the role of G20 in global energy governance as well as to seek policy recommendations for the 2016 G20 Summit. The objective of the conference would be two-fold: (1) catalyze discussion at the G20 about the opportunities and challenges for its role in global energy governance, and (2) provide ideas on China’s role in the G20 and global energy governance.
