“The Fifth International Roundtable on Asian Security: Concept Building and Problem Solution” sponsored by SIIS in Shanghai

On April 23, 2016, entrusted by the Department of European-Central Asian Affairs of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), SIIS held the fifth international roundtable on Asian Security: Concept Building and Problem Solution at Shanghai Hong Qiao State Guest House. Ms. Jiang Yan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of European-Central Asian Affairs, MFA, delivered a keynote speech at the opening session which was chaired by Prof. Chen Dongxiao, President of SIIS. After a retrospect on the development of CICA, Madam Jiang shared her views on the achievements of CICA in the past two decades and her thoughts on China’s presidency of CICA in the coming two years. She also interacted with several scholars in the Q&A session afterwards. The roundtable discussion has four sessions: CICA’s status in the construction of Asian security architecture, CICA’s role in civilization dialogue and regional security governance, CICA’s function in the coordination among Asian security institutions, CICA’s development and China’s presidency. More than forty scholars from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Egypt, Iran and UAE shared their insights and wisdom on the above-mentioned topics. With a concluding remark given by Prof. Yang Jiemian, Chair of SIIS Academic Committee, this roundtable came to a successful close.
