From June 15-16, 2016, international workshop on East Asian Partners Dialogue on Latin American Studies: Common Understanding and Cooperation was co-hosted by the Institute for Latin American Studies, CASS, Shanghai Academy, and SIIS in Shanghai. More than 60 participants including research fellows from thinktanks and universities of China, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Russia and Peru and officials from the department of Latin America of Chinese Foreign Ministry had a discussion on the status quo of Latin American research in East Asia, institutional cooperation prospect and cooperation mechanism etc. President Chen Dongxiao gave an opening remark. Prof. Yang Jiemian, Chairman of Academic Council made a keynote speech. Prof. Yan Anlin, Vice President of SIIS had a meeting with some of the participants. All the discussants reached the Shanghai Consensus which is to accumulate common understanding among the LAC studies institutions in East Asia, then to set up a regular and intensive cooperation platform, and finally to integrate it with its counterparts in Latin America in the future.
