On August 1, 2016, Co-sponsored by the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, China Foreign Affairs College,  Association of Geo-Strategic Studies and Development, Shanghai Institute for International Strategic Studies, the Forum on Maritime Peace and Cooperation was held in SIIS. As the first activity of the Peace Boat Project, the forum invited nearly 40 experts from Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam to discuss on the establishment of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and Maritime Peace and Cooperation. SIIS President Chen Dongxiao and Prof. Su Hao, director of the Center for Strategic and Peace Studies delivered opening remarks.
