UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon paid a visit to SIIS

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) on May 19, 2014. Mr. Ban Ki-moon held a round-table talk with SIIS scholars. In his speech and following interactions, Mr. Ban Ki-moon addressed wide spectrum of challenges including inequality and insecurity around the world, highlighting the importance of UN role in responding to these problems. He also warmly commended China for its crucial contribution in the areas such as achievement of MDGs, setting the new global development agenda, and participation in UN peacekeeping operations. He hoped that the UN and China can further strengthen mutual cooperation in promoting South-South Cooperation in global poverty-alleviation and maintenance of international peace and security. Prof. Chen Dongxiao, President of SIIS chaired the meeting and briefed him the cooperation between SIIS and UN institutions.
