On Oct. 27,
2017, the international conference on the Cooperation between China and
European Sub-regions in the Frames of “16+1 Cooperation” and the Belt and Road
Initiative was co-hosted by SIIS and the Committee for Friendship with Foreign Countries, CPPCC Shanghai
Committee.

Chen Dongxiao gave an opening remark for the conference. Prof. Yang Jiemian,
chairman of SIIS Academic Affairs Council, and Counsellor Gao Rui, Director of
the Department of European Affairs, Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, China delivered keynote speeches.
Experts
from Central and East European countries including Latvia, Romania, Austria,
Bulgaria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia were invited. Chinese participants included
scholars from China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), Shanghai
Institute of European Studies, East China Normal University, Tongji University,
and SIIS had a discussion with their European colleagues on the following
issues, (1) Interrelationship between Globalization, Regional Integration and
Sub-regional Cooperation; (2) Sub-regional Dimension of “16+1 Cooperation” and
BRI: Opportunities and Challenges; (3) China’s Opportunity in Danube
Sub-regional Cooperation; (4) Prospect of the Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea Seaport
Cooperation.
