International Workshop on Applying a Policy Coherence Lens to China’s Belt and Road Initiative Held at SIIS

On March 18, 2018, the SIIS co-hosted an international workshop on Applying a Policy Coherence Lens to China’s Belt and Road Initiative: How can it help achieve the 2030 Agenda and what are its implications for global governance?

SIIS President Chen Dongxiao, Ms. Ebba Dohlman, Senior Adviser, Policy Coherence for Development, OECD, and Mr. Han Zhenhai, Director, Division of General Affairs Coordination for Promoting the BRI, Dept. of Western Region Development, National Development and Reform Commission of PRC gave their opening remarks.

Nearly twenty scholars from SIIS, OECD, DIE, China Center for International Knowledge on Development, China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal Government etc. participated in the discussion.

This workshop focused on following issues: Identifying synergies between domestic policy objectives, the BRI and the SDGs, Harnessing the BRI to accelerate progress towards SDGs and leaving no one behind, How can 2030 Agenda facilitate BRI through PCSD Lens etc.
