Prof. Karl Eikenberry from Stanford University Visits SIIS

    On January 3 – 6, 2019, Professor Karl Eikenberry, Director of the U.S.-Asia Security Initiative at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Centre of Stanford University visited Shanghai at the invitation of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS).

    SIIS President Chen Dongxiao met with Professor Eikenberry and has a discussion on Sino-US relations. Dr. Wu Chunsi, Director of Institute for International Strategic Studies and Dr. Shao Yuqun, Director of Institute for Taiwan, Hong Kong& Macao Studies participated in the meeting.

Professor Eikenberry gave a talk on “The Trump Administration's Indo-Pacific Strategy” at SIIS to an audience of 40 people, including SIIS research fellows from Center for American Studies, Center for Asia-Pacific Studies, post-graduate students and students from other universities and institutions based in Shanghai.

Professor Yan Anlin, Vice President of SIIS met with Mrs. Ching Eikenberry and had a discussion on Cross-straits relations.

Professor Yang Jiemian, Chairman of SIIS Academic Affairs Council met with Professor and Mrs. Eikenberry.

During his stay in Shanghai, Professor Eikenberry also visited China National Institute for SCO International Exchange and Judicial Cooperation (CNISCO) at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. Professor Wang Wei, Dean of “One Belt One Road Initiative” Security Research Center and his colleagues met with Professor Eikenberry and held a seminar on Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-US relations.
