On July 6, 2019, Prof. Tijjani Mohammad-Bande, president-elect of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, led a delegation to visit the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. Prof. Chen Dongxiao, president of SIIS, and Prof. Yang Jiemian, chairman of SIIS academic affairs council, met with the delegation

The two sides had a discussion on the global governance, China-Africa relations, and the challenges of global multilateralism etc.

Prof. Mohammad-Bande pointed out that since China has made great achievements in the field of poverty alleviation at home, China has become increasingly important in the world. China is expected to continue to play a greater and active role in the global governance. He also believed that each country should take responsibility for the implementation of the United Nations sustainable development goal (SDGs), and that even developed countries have room for improvement. Finally, Prof. Mohammad-Bande congratulated the SIIS on its 60th anniversary in the near future and is willing to promote cooperation between the United Nations and Nigerian institutions and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies.
