On Nov. 7, 2019, SIIS held the 2019 Round Table of Global Review: Centennial Changes, Regional Order and China’s Diplomacy in Shanghai, which is an annual meeting of SIIS international advisors and established experts from home and abroad.

Prof. Zhou Hanmin, vice chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the meeting and delivered a speech on the New Lingang Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the integration of the Yangtze River Delta.

In his opening remark, SIIS President Chen Dongxiao warmly welcomed overseas and Chinese guests and pointed out that experts of international studies around the world have different perspectives of centennial changes, regional and global order, therefore, he expected that with this roundtable discussion, retrospect, prospect and wide range dialogues would promote mutual understanding effectively.

Counsellor Zhang Yiqi from the Policy Planning Department of Foreign Affairs Ministry of China shared her insights on the implication of centennial changes and the future of China’s diplomacy. The keynote speech was moderated by Prof. Yang Jiemian, chairman of SIIS academic affairs council. Prof. Yan Anlin, vice president of SIIS also attended the meeting. Participants had a deep discussion on the manifestations and implications of the transforming world, the dynamics and alignment of the Asia-Pacific region, and the new task and requirement of China’s diplomacy.

International invitees included Adrian Năstase, Former Prime Minister of Romania, President of Titulescu European Foundation, Jorge Taiana,Former Foreign Minister of Argentina, OngKeng Yong, Executive Deputy Chairman of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at the Nanyang Technological University, Volker Perthes, Chairman and Director of the German Institute for International Security Affairs, Sujan R. Chinoy, Director of the Institute for Defense Studies and Analysis, India, Bates Gill, Professor of Asia-Pacific Security Studies of Macquarie University, and JusufWanandi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees CSIS Foundation, Jakarta.

Chinese participants included Yang Youming, Former Chinese ambassador to Zambia,  XuJian, President of China Foreign Affairs University,  Rong Ying, Vice President and Senior Research Fellow of China Institute of International Studies, Wang Jian, Director of Institute of International Relations of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and senior fellows of SIIS.
