The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies Celebrates its 60th Anniversary

On October 25, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies held a conference and a series of academic seminars on Major Changes and China’s Diplomacy in the New Era to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

In the congratulatory letter, Li Qiang, Party Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal CPC Committee, highly appreciated the achievements made by the SIIS in the past 60 years. He also pointed out that the scholars of SIIS should stick to Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, grasp the general trend at home and abroad by taking into account both domestic and international dynamic situations, base their studies upon on the practice of China's major-country diplomacy while pay more attention to the practical needs of Shanghai, and constantly improve their research capability and to make greater contributions to China’s diplomacy and Shanghai's economic and social development as well.

Entrusted by Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang, Zhuge Yujie,standing member and secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee announced the congratulatory letter from Li Qiang and delivered a speech on behalf of CPC Shanghai committee and Shanghai municipal government.

Sha Hailin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and Chairman of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) and Zong Ming, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal government attended the conference. Zhou Hanmin, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Municipal Committee, spoke on Shanghai's strategic positioning under the new development pattern, and He Yafei, former vice minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a keynote speech on global governance and the future of China-US relations.

Yang Jiemian, chairman of the SIIS Academic Affairs Council reviewed the glorious past of SIIS and its contribution to China's diplomacy.  Distinguished guests from the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations (SSSA) and Shanghai International Studies University delivered speeches respectively and expressed warm congratulations to SIIS on its 60th anniversary.

After the conference, the SIIS held seminars on  The New Vision and Mission of China's diplomacy amid Upheavals and Changes , EU’s Foreign Strategy and the Prospect of China-EU Relations in the Game of Great Powers, Maritime Security and the Perspective of China-Japan Relations, The Evolving Order in the Middle East: the Role of External and Regional Powers , The Implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” in Hong Kong in the New Era: Opportunities and Challenges and The U.S. Presidential Election and China-U.S. Relations. Nearly 100 experts and scholars participated in the seminars and conducted extensive and in-depth discussions.
